Colistin Sulfate

Features:
1) Chemical formula and molecular weight:
    a) COLISTIN A: C53H100N16O13 
    b) COLISTIN B: C52H98N16O13
2) Properties:
    a) A white or almost white powder, bitter and hygroscopic, freely soluble in
water, slightly soluble in methanol, free base is slightly soluble in water 
    b) Stable under PH Value 3-7.5
3) Benefits: 
    a) Colistin sulphate is an antibiotic of basic polypeptides composed 
    b) Strong antibiotic effect against intestinal diseases caused by gram-negative
bacilli
    c) Used as feed addictive and also has some growth to the dried substances
4) Indications for use and dosage:
    a) Mix thoroughly with feed at a gradient scale
    b) The recommended dosage level for swine is 2 - 40g (under 2 months of age),
is 2 - 20g(under 4 months of age), chickens are 2 - 20g 
    c) Basis on 100% active colistin sulphate
5) Products available:
    a) Colistin sulphate
    b) Colistin sulphate premix
6) Specifications: no less than 19,000 IU per milligram, calculated with reference
to the dried substance
7) Storage: to be stored away from light in a cool and dry place
8) Remarks: colistin sulphate 1ug=30units (potency)
9) Precautions:
    a) The drug should be prohibited during layering period
    b) Do not use in combination with aureomycin, terramycin, bacitracin and olaquindox
    c) When used for acute enteritis, rate of use shall be twice the maximum limit
of the dose above
    d) Dispose of in accordance with corresponding environmental regulations
